Shut up and drink your malk...

Mmmm, yummy quorn - gotta love that "all-natural, meat-free frozen food"...tastes just like chicken...

And "...the best thing about Quorn is that "it has a really fabulous bite," said David Wilson, Quorn's U.S. vice president. He means that it has the firmness of meat -- when you chew into a nugget of Quorn, it pushes back against your teeth a little, like beef and chicken do. Soy products are generally softer, requiring less effort to chew." - this from a Wired.com article about the stuff.

There so appear, however to be a few complaints about Quorn, but even the Quorn folks admit "[o]ne person in 146,000 will have an adverse reaction to Quorn, Wilson said. That's a smaller rate than soy -- which Wilson said was around one in 350."

Honestly, I'm thinking about stopping in Cincinnati Natural Foods or Wild Oats to check some out. (PS - Stopped at Wild Oats last night and picked up the Quorn Chicken-ish nuggets. They're dinner tonight. I'll report back afterwards.)

There's also the possibility that soon we'll be able to eat meat from a test tube. Apparently a Dutch lab has been working on "artificial pork meat out of pig stem cells" - "a form of minced meat suitable for burgers, sausages and pizza toppings within the next few years".

I'm somehow a little more reluctant to try the fake pork for some reason.

Good to know, however, that people are working on options to help us take care of any possible coming food shortages or nutritional issues.

Quorn nuggets - generally pretty tasty. They've got a good texture, very similar to that of white meat chicken. The breading could use some more spice, but that's what I'd say about most nuggets I'd get from anywhere.

Without a doubt, I can safely say that if you served these to anybody - friends, kids, whomever - without saying that they weren't true chicken, they'd never complain and might, in fact, think they were pretty good nuggets.

I'm not sold on Quorn being more nutritionally benefitial than chicken, admittedly, so I don't know that I gained anything from eating these, but they're at least acceptable as a substitute if you're looking for a meatless oiption.

Way more velievable than Morningstar Farms or Boca or Garden Burgers. Those are okay, but they're clearly not beef...
