Lonnieburger Baskets: The Pub at Rookwood Mews

A few times a year, I wander to the Pub at Rookwood Mews for a night of trivia with some of my favorite folks - Calen, Katydid, Grace, KernelMurray, RuffRyder, and a few more Vikes for life.  We never win, always come in somewhere a couple of points behind the leaders, but perpetually have a blast.

And this past time, I had a cheeseburger, too.

For you people, this is how I suffer.

Burger
  • Tasty enough but not awesome.  It's getting to be troublesome how often all I have to say about the burgers is "it's a'ight but nothing special."  But that's what this burger patty was pretty much like.  There's certainly nothing wrong with the Rookwood Pub burger, but there's nothing about the burger that would distinguish it from any of dozens of other burgers that you can find pretty much anywhere.  The burger's juicy.  The burger's not crispy on the outside.  The burger's thick.  The burger's made of beef and all, but it's not the highest quality beef around.  It's a burger, you know.  Burger - 5

Toppings
  • Good bacon.  Decent other stuff.  Melted cheese.  Seriously, I'm heading straight for middle of the road territory here.  Toppings - 6

Fries
  • Hot...creamy insides...not terribly crispy outsides...no salt, no spices...Fries - 5

Ambiance
  • Yeah, I didn't take any of those photos.  Stole 'em all via Google.  (Thanks, Sergey & Larry).

I dig the Pub.  It's a reasonable recreation of a British pub, just ported over to the major shopping center in Cincinnati (and quite a few other cities, as it turns out).  They put out a great selection of beers and scotches (as well as other adult beverages) and have a good selection of menu items - particularly their fish and chips (which they sell for half price during trivia night - Mondays at the Rookwood Pub.)

The place is set up as a bunch of small, semi-intimate seating areas, nooks here and there, with cushioned seats (not cushioned enough on the bench I took this past time) and heavy, wooden tables.  There are also tall tables with high stools and a semi-outdoor patio area (heated and roll-down windowed during the winter; open, breezy, and airy during the summer).  It's a neat place, and (unlike some other places) actually welcoming to folks with under-twenty-one folks all the time.  Ambiance - 8

Cost
  • Burger & fries $8.95...diet coke $1.75...that's slightly over my $10.50 middle ground, so Cost - 4

Other stuff
  • Yeah, that's a really pink burger there.  I'll admit that I ordered the burger medium-rare, but this one came out way rare.  I could've sent it back and all, but I didn't.  I shouldn't have to. -2
  • Their drink selection is outstanding, seriously, seriously outstanding.  +1
  • Trivia is really fun at The Pub.  They could use some better speakers and maybe a slightly quieter environment to hear the questions, themselves.  +1
Let's see where that gets us...

The Pub at Rookwood Mews - 28
  • Terry's Turf Club - 45
  • Cafe de Wheels - 44
  • Five Guys Burgers and Fries - 36
  • Roxy's - 36
  • VanZandt - 34
  • Gabby's - 34
  • Oakley Pub & Grill - 34
  • Quatman's - 32 / 34.5
  • Troy's - 32
  • Pub at Rookwood Mews - 28
  • Graffiti Burger - 27
  • Arthur's - 26
  • Sammy's - 25
It's been a rough stretch here of burger joints that are pretty plain and nondescript, middling kind of stuff.  Luckily, that ends with the next review: Senate.

Quick preview, Senate's burger rocks!  But is kinda expensive.
